Tattoos
In tattoo mode you click the ped where the tattoo should go and move it over the skin with the mouse. The tattoo is painted into the garment’s textures.
Start tattoo mode
Press Tattoos, the stamp among the buttons at the top left of the stage. The tattoo panel takes the inspector’s place and the tools show on the stage.
You do not need to select a garment first. A tattoo lands on the garment you click, and the arms count as part of the category Arms and torso. The panel says which garment you are tattooing.
Choose a picture and place it
Choose one of the ready-made tattoos, Barbed wire or Geometric band. They are Pedify’s own drawings.
Or press Add tattoo and choose a picture of your own, a PNG or JPEG. Pictures larger than 2048 pixels are scaled down.
Click the ped where the tattoo should go. It is placed there, 12 cm along its longest side, and selected.
Tip
Use a PNG with a transparent background. A JPEG has no transparency, so the whole picture lands on the skin, background and all.
Move, turn and resize
Drag the tattoo to move it over the skin. It follows the shape of the body and keeps its angle. Right-drag to turn the ped and scroll to zoom.
The selected tattoo gets a cyan outline and a gizmo. Under Gizmo mode, choose Turn to turn it along the skin or Resize to change its size.
The panel has the same as sliders: Size from 1 to 40 cm, Angle, Opacity and Depth, how far into the body the tattoo reaches, from 2 to 15 cm.
Mirror puts a mirrored copy on the other side of the body, on the other arm for example, and Remove removes the tattoo.
Good to know
Many of the game’s garments draw both arms from the same part of the texture. A tattoo on one arm then shows on the other too, and the panel says so. It cannot be changed in Pedify; choose a garment whose arms have parts of the texture of their own if the tattoo is to show on one arm only.
Layers and undo
Under Layers the garment’s tattoos are listed in the order they are painted, the last one on top. Click one to select it, or move it up or down the list.
Every change is a step in the history. The tattoos are painted into every texture variant of the garment, and the original textures are kept, so removing every tattoo gives you the garment as it was.
Esc lets go of the tattoo you have selected, and another press leaves the mode. Done leaves it too.
Good to know
A garment can wear at most 32 tattoos. A garment without textures cannot be tattooed, because there is nothing to paint on.
The game’s tattoos
Press Tattoos and choose the tab From the game. It holds the game’s own tattoos from Pedify’s library, each with a picture. The tab is there when the library can be reached. Without the library it is there only while the ped wears one of the game’s tattoos, and then lists just those, so they can still be faded or removed. While the tab is open a click on the ped puts nothing there.
Choose a zone under Zone, from Torso to Right leg. Each zone says how many tattoos it has, and under Search you search their names within the zone.
Click a tattoo. It is painted in where the game itself puts it and marked in the grid. A click on a marked tattoo does nothing.
Under Where it goes are the garments the tattoo goes on, each with a checkbox. A tattoo on the torso can reach both the top and the trousers, for example. Untick a garment that should not get the next tattoo. The choice holds until you change tabs or close the panel.
Under On the ped the game’s tattoos on the ped are listed. Opacity goes from 0 to 100 %, and Remove takes the tattoo off every garment it is on. Each change is a step in the history.
Good to know
A tattoo from the game sits where the game puts it and cannot be moved, turned or resized. For a tattoo in a place of your own, use Add tattoo under Your own with a picture of your own.
The game’s tattoos need the game’s body. A ped made in The base has it, and so does a ped wearing the game’s own freemode body parts. A ped with a body of its own gets none, and then Where it goes says the tattoos have nowhere to sit.
Under Sharpness you choose Normal (1024) or High (2048). The garment a tattoo belongs to (the torso for the torso and the arms, the legs for the legs, the head for the head) gets larger textures, all its variants, so the tattoo comes out sharp; a garment it only reaches keeps its size. The line under the choice says how many textures that is and about how many MB each choice adds; changing it while the ped wears them changes them all.
A tattoo from the game costs the same as your own, and one that reaches two garments counts only once.
What it costs
Tattoos cost 10 credits for every 2 layers or part of 2 on each garment, charged when the export succeeds. What you have already paid for is not charged again, and removing a tattoo gives no credits back.
