Wear, swap and edit

Every edit goes into the history, so any of them can be undone. The examples are for Top 4 with variant 2 selected.

Dress the ped

  1. Select a garment to see it in the inspector, then press Wear this. The ped wears it on the stage, and its card is marked Worn. What the ped wears is only for the preview; it does not change the ped’s files.

  2. A garment’s variants are its textures, shown as tiles under Variants. Select one to look at it, and press Wear this to put that variant on. The last tile, Add a variant, adds a picture as a new variant. Right-click a tile, or press Shift+F10 on it, for a menu with Edit texture, Duplicate variant, Move to place and Remove variant for that variant.

  3. Once the ped wears a garment the same button reads Take this off: press it and the category is left empty, with nothing in its place. A whole category can be emptied from its header in the garment list with Take off, without choosing a garment first. Taking a garment off is preview only, like wearing it: the ped keeps the garment, and an export still writes it.

Change textures and garments

Under Texture, Replace picture puts another picture in the selected variant’s place, Save as PNG and Save as DDS save it to your computer, Duplicate variant 2 adds it once more as the garment’s last variant, Move to another garment moves it to another garment, and Remove variant 2 removes it. A picture can be a PNG, JPEG or DDS file. A copy of a variant is free and starts from the same picture as the original, with the layers you put on it in the texture editor, so you can make another colour of it without touching the original.

Under Garment, Move to index gives the garment another place in its category, Move to category moves it to another category, Duplicate Top 4 makes a copy of it, and Remove Top 4 takes it out of the ped. Removing asks nothing first, because undo brings it back. The copy lands last in the category, so no other garment changes number, and it gets every variant and everything you have done to the garment: texture layers, skin, tattoos, face shape and optimization. It counts as a new garment when you export, and the work it carries is counted for the copy as for the original.

Move to category lists both the clothing and the accessories. A hat or cap can move to another accessory category, such as glasses, and stays on the head. It can also become an ordinary garment, such as a mask or a hairstyle: Pedify then binds the whole model to the bone it hung on, so it shows in the same place and follows the head as before. A garment bound to a single bone can become an accessory on that bone the same way. A garment that follows several bones, like a top, cannot become an accessory, and a category that cannot be chosen is grey and says why under its name. An added garment costs nothing more for being moved.

Undo and redo

Press Undo or Redo, the two arrows in the top bar, or use Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y to redo, with Cmd on a Mac. The shortcuts work anywhere in the editor except in a text field.

Tip

Try things freely. Everything you do in the editor can be undone, and the files on your computer never change: only an export writes new files.
